Artist's Statement

Photography as a mirror of reality - it is how we use and think of the medium most of the time. But what happens when that mirrored reality contains no recognizable objects? Then our own brains take over, doing their best to make sense out of nonsense. The photographs in this exhibition explore that phenomenon, bringing us face to face with the workings of our own minds.

Each of us is a unique individual with his/her individual background of experiences, interests and emotions, but at the same time we are all human beings with shared experiences, culture, and physiology. So our response to these photographs is an interesting interplay between what we share and what makes us individuals. I am fascinated that viewers respond in such different ways to these photographs, sometimes with a reaction shared by almost everyone, sometimes in delightfully individual ways, sometimes in a way that changes from day to day, or from glance to glance.
