Whether in nature or the urban environment, I am fascinated with pattern, form, and texture and the interplay between those on different scales in an image. Some of the most unexpected patterns arise in reflections from water and glass, and exploring the surprising effects that can be found in reflections is a major theme of much of my photography.

I am also intrigued by the possibilities of using photography to examine changes in both space and time. Reflections in glass can change quite remarkably with motion in space, altered both by the change in perspective and by the changing effects of the reflecting surface. It is as if the reflections reveal new dimensions of space, a line of thought which has led me to new ways of thinking about and treating reflections. See, for example, the Looking Glass portfolio.

Reflections in water can change in time so rapidly that the camera can capture what can not be seen with the naked eye. Water reflections are fascinating in their endless variety and have led me to explore in several different directions, including some that brush with psychology and neuroscience.
