There is a long tradition in literature and folk tales of associating strange, sometimes occult, qualities with reflections from water or glass; familiar examples are Snow White, Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass, and the Harry Potter books. I have come at reflections from a different direction, and my uses of them are also generally different from the traditional ones, but sufficiently similar that the Looking Glass title is usefully suggestive.

In these images I have attempted to use reflections (in themselves, and sometimes in relation to the ‘real world') in a somewhat ambiguous, sometimes playful way, to suggest possibility, memory, hope, etc. The strange, distorted background in these works helps, I hope, to set the viewer free from a literal interpretation of the work. The titles are purposely vague with the aim of suggesting possible ways of looking at these images, while trying to leave the viewer free to make of them what he/she will. For myself, most of these images suggest different things at different times, and I will consider myself to have succeeded here if that is also true for at least some of the viewers.
